Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the business world. AI-powered technologies are automating tasks, improving decision-making, and creating new products and services — and organisations that do not leverage AI risk a significant competitive disadvantage. This course equips management students with the knowledge and applied skills needed to understand, evaluate, and use AI effectively across business and non-business functions.
The course covers AI applications across marketing, finance, operations, government, healthcare, and agriculture, and develops hands-on proficiency in data analytics and AI-powered business intelligence using Microsoft Power BI. Students also develop critical perspectives on prompt engineering, AI model-building, risk mitigation, and the ethical dimensions of AI integration. The course prepares students for careers as business consultants and data analysts who can leverage artificial intelligence to enhance organisational operations and support evidence-based strategic decisions.
For AACSB Assurance of Learning purposes, this Term 4 course is mapped to three Competency Goals at Reinforce (R) and Emphasise (E) levels. Students reinforce the ability to apply functional and management knowledge (CG1/PO1) by examining AI implementations across diverse organisational functions and assessing their strategic impact. They simultaneously reinforce and emphasise critical thinking and data-driven decision-making (CG2/PO2) by analysing business data using Power BI and AI tools and evaluating AI adoption strategies. The course is also a cross-functional course, integrating AI applications across Finance, Marketing, Operations, Healthcare, Government, and Agriculture domains. The course additionally develops global, economic, and ethical dimensions of AI in business (CG4/PO4) by critically evaluating the ethical implications, and global regulatory aspects of AI adoption across diverse business and societal contexts.
